Fatal Traffic Crash - Highway 97 north of Oregon / California Border

Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation of a fatal traffic crash in which a California resident, who was a student at Oregon Institute of Technology, died Monday morning after his car collided head-on with a log truck on Highway 97 about one mile north of the Oregon / California border.

On May 7, 2007 at approximately 7:30 a.m. a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by ROBERT JOHN DRAMINSKI III, age 19, from San Jose, California, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 290 when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a fully loaded log truck. After impact, both vehicles came to rest on opposites of the highway in flooded fields. DRAMINSKI was using safety restraints and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the 2006 Kenworth truck, NELS HOWARD JORGENSEN, age 44, from Klamath Falls received minor injuries and was transported by Keno Fire District ambulance to Merle West Medical Center in Klamath Falls. He was using safety restraints.

Less than approximately 50 gallons of diesel and fuel spilled into the flooded field. A Roseburg-area environmental cleanup company responded to the scene to handle the spill. Read more oregon.gov.
